If you answered yes to any of these questions, join us Saturday, March 20 for our annual spring installation of Terry Riley's "in C." It's the spring equinox, and we're celebrating in old-school, downtown, Bang On a Can style.
Center faculty, students, and friends will span out across our facility and present an installation of San Francisco Bay area minimalist composer Terry Riley's mid-century beauty "In C." Incorporating democratic ideals and elements of chance, Riley's work is composed of 53 musical riffs that each player repeats for 45 seconds to one minute. Since each musician is free to move from one riff to the next when he or she chooses, phasing between musicians results. A pulsing, energetic, celebration of life gradually emerges and transforms.
Something truly remarkable for all to enjoy.
Instrumentalists and singers who are interested in joining the Human C-in are encouraged to contact any faculty member and to download and practice the riffs in the score.
